SSDI, in some cases also provides auxiliary benefits to the dependents of the applicant.
- Supplemental Security Income (SSI) claims: This program provides financial assistance to disabled, low-income individuals regardless of past work history. It is designed to help disabled, elderly and blind people, and in some cases their children or caregivers, meet their basic living expenses. To qualify, a person must have little to no income or assets and be unable to work because of their disability.
- Veterans Administration (VA) Disability claims: This program is designed to assist U.S. military veterans who became disabled because of a service-related injury, illness or mental condition, or who otherwise became disabled because of their military service.
